Jeff Cole
Technology and Infrastructure Lead, Co-founder
A veteran developer of web applications in the technology start-up world, Jeff Cole has worked with Jamie and Ben Heywood, his friends and fellow PatientsLikeMe co-founders, for almost 20 years. Upon PatientsLikeMe’s founding in 2004, Jeff spent the first year of the company’s life building the website from scratch, and served as CTO for the company’s first 5 years. After his CTO role, he started a Data Analytics team to analyze members’ site usage activity and their shared health data, with the goal of improving user experience. Prior to co-founding PatientsLikeMe, Jeff worked for the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI) as the lead software engineer. He made significant upgrades to their website, adding the first-ever searchable index of ALS studies, as well as a real-time visualization of TDI’s laboratory pipeline. He also developed a Monte Carlo simulator of mouse studies to statistically analyze the design and power of ALS mouse studies published at that time. The results of this simulation led to a paper he co-authored, which was published in the journal Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Jeff received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
